Five Days of Performances After Months of Preparation

Well, we got through yet another dance recital season, dancing all four nights to one extent or the other. Brigid made her debut as a hula baby and was fabulous. She really enjoyed it and was cute as hell.

She especially enjoyed the idea of dancing barefoot. Big surprise, coming from the kid I can't keep shoes and socks on. But I think she really enjoyed the freedom of dancing in a bathing suit! At least it wasn't her birthday suit, which she has also been known to dance in. Margaret and Patricia made their debut in the kickline.
It's an accomplishment to get to that level.

And it's one more costume to buy, but now they'll use it each year they dance in the kickline. My dances went well. We had a good time on stage, which is all you can ask for in an adult hip-hop class. That, and being able to get up off you knee when the choreography calls for you to go down on your knee.
Patricia and I also reached another milestone -- our names appear in the program under the "10 Years Dancing" section. They start recognizing dancers who have 10 or more years with the school. Margaret took a few years off after her hula baby stint before getting back in, so she has a few more before she's listed. So whoo hoo to Patricia and me for having the stamina.

It's a relief that it's over, but by the time September rolls around again, we're ready to get back into it. Brigid thinks she'll be a hula baby the rest of her life, so that may take some convincing that she's left that chapter of her life behind.

Monday night, the girls switched gears and sang at a concert called, "An Evening of Choral Music," at the Stafford auditorium. Patricia sang a solo in the Andrew Lloyd Webber medley, and Margaret and the high school Select Vocal Ensemble performed as well. It was a wonderful night of choral music. Brigid was reasonably well-behaved, which is also a plus. Now, the weeks will slip by faster than we can imagine. This is the last full week of school for the girls. Exams begin next week and then they're done. Our next big project is the St. Peter's bazaar.

This brings me to some sad news in our lives. Our beloved friend, Godfather to Brigid, and pastor of St. Peter's has been reassigned to a parish in Lake Placid. His last day at St. Peter's is June 22. John has had 17 years at the parish -- unheard of in most parishes -- but he's synonomous with St. Peter's. He's shepherded the parish through a major renovation and a new addition, he's brought it into the 21st century culturally and socially. And he's one of my best friends. Lake Placid is only an hour away, but some days it will seem like a million. It could be worse. He could have been reassigned to Nicholville or Lowellville. But it's still not around the corner. We shall miss him terribly. I see many visits to Lake Placid in our future.
